Advising Network Seeking Nominations for 2013-2014 Executive Committee

The Advising Network is currently seeking nominations for the 2013-14 Executive Committee for the positions listed below.

Chair-Elect: The chair-elect's responsibility is to learn from the chair and past-chair before assuming the role of network chair. The chair-elect coordinates the annual network elections and chairs the elections committee. In addition, the chair-elect is responsible for planning the calendar and network meetings. This is a three year position.

Treasurer: The treasurer prepares the annual budget (with the network chair), processes financial transactions in accordance to University regulations and assists the chair in compiling the Annual Report for the Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education. This is a two year position.

Public Relations Coordinator: The Public Relations Coordinator oversees the electronic newsletter, posts information to the advising network website, chairs the public relations committee and assists other committee members as needed to coordinate publicity. This is a one year position. 

Events Coordinator: This position coordinates, with additional help from the membership when needed, Advising Network events to include Day of Service, Holiday social event, Advisor Awards, and other events developed in the future. For each event, the coordinator handles event invitations, tracks attendance, reserves rooms, negotiates menus and prices with catering and event publicity. Also, this position chairs the events committee, which completes all pieces for an event to include decorations, publicity, programs, IT support, and budget. This is a one year position. 

University Senate Academic Advising Committee: Represents the Advising Network on the University Senate’s Academic Advising Committee (SAcAC). This committee reviews the effectiveness and accountability of academic advising throughout the University, establishes standards for quality in academic advising, and provides recommendations and advice to the Senate Council. The Advising Network has three representatives on this committee: two elected representatives holding three year terms and the immediate past-chair of the network for a one year term.

Congratulations to our Ken Freedman Outstanding Advisor Award Winners!


Congratulations to George L. Scott Jr. of the Robinson Scholars Program for winning the 2013 Ken Freedman Outstanding Professional Advisor Award and to Dr. David Moecher, chair of the department of Earth and Environmental Sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences, for winning the 2013 Ken Freedman Outstanding Faculty Advisor Award!
